Kate McLean, Senior Consultant

Kate McLean has a rich and productive history in the philanthropic and nonprofit world spanning four decades. Her experience includes work as an executive director, trainer, board member, consultant, executive coach and program director. Kate has extensive experience in growing philanthropic organizations and has been instrumental in starting a number of nonprofit agencies and social programs.

Kate founded the most comprehensive child, family social services agency in Ventura County, California, where she served as Executive Director for 18 years. Under Kate's leadership, Interface Children Family Services grew to a staff of sixty, with six sites and nine programs providing counseling education, treatment and shelter for over 20,000 abused children, troubled individuals, battered women and families in crisis.

As President & CEO of the Ventura County Community Foundation for 13 years, Kate grew a fledgling organization to a successful and well respected community asset. With Kate's skillful guidance the Community Foundation increased its endowment from $300,000 to more than $75 million in current and future planned gifts. She also developed numerous innovative programs that became models for other community foundations including the Women's Legacy Fund, a fund focused on Latino philanthropy and the Civic Alliance of Ventura County, which brings community leaders together to address region-wide issues.

Kate has played instrumental leadership roles on the inaugural boards of the Counselors of California Lutheran University Business School; the Civic Alliance for Ventura County; the League of California Community Foundations; the Ventura County AIDS Partnership; the Ventura County Leadership Academy; KCLU- Ventura County's National Public Radio station; California Child, Youth, Family Coalition, Ventura County Planned Giving Council and many others. She currently is on the Boards of Directors of a family foundation, a University, a national women's health research foundation, a social justice organization and a children, family social service organization.

Kate has her bachelors in sociology and her masters in business administration. Kate lives in the Los Angeles area.
